Today we had Chapel, Social Skills, Class Meeting, Science, Music, French and Resource time.
I have asked to see a draft of the boys' speeches by Tuesday next week. There is plenty of time, I just want to check progress and make sure that it is not going to be left to the last minute and cause panic. I am looking at boys presenting their speeches to the class in Week 4. This gives them another week to finalise their speeches and rehearse.
The boys have been introduced to and are loving, the world of Edmodo, an education social networking site which has a similar interface to Facebook. There has been a significant amount of social networking occurring over the last few days. Whilst socialising they have also been exploring and finding out what they can do on the site. We have talked about appropriate use of the site, consequences of cyberbullying and the reasons why the site could be useful for our class aside from the social aspect.
A large majority of this class are in and out at different times for instrumental lessons, with some boys out several times, as they are learning more than one instrument. There are also days when boys are sick or away for SAPSASA etc. To make it easier for them to touch base with me or their classmates on anything they may have missed and of which they need to be aware, Edmodo gives me the opportunity to share information just with them, as I do for parents with the blog. The boys can ask each other about what they have missed, they can have discussions with each other on topics they are looking at school and they can clarify understanding of tasks. They can upload documents at home or at school and access them from either end. As we become more familiar with this site I am sure other uses will emerge. If you think of ways it can be used and useful please share these with the boys.
